“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1)
In a time where division is rampant—across politics, churches, families, and even friend groups, this Word felt especially timely. Social media fuels comparison. News outlets stoke fear. Communities are divided by race, class, ideology, and even theology. But God still calls His people to unity, not uniformity, but unity rooted in love, purpose, and Spirit-led fellowship.
Psalm 133 paints a vivid picture using symbols from the Old Testament: the sacred anointing oil flowing down Aaron’s beard, and the life-giving dew on Mount Hermon. These images remind us that unity isn’t a bonus, it’s the condition for God's commanded blessing. We don’t stumble into unity by chance; we must fight for it, protect it, and prioritize it.
Here are three key takeaways:
Unity is a divine priority, not just a human preference.God is not passive about harmony. Where there is unity, He commands a blessing. It’s more than just "getting along"—it's aligning with His divine order.
Unity requires intentional effort.Real unity doesn’t happen on autopilot. It demands humility, forgiveness, and shared vision. In a world quick to cancel and slow to reconcile, Christians are called to do the hard work of peace.
Unity releases power and presence.Just like oil represents anointing and dew represents refreshing, unity releases the supernatural presence of God in our lives and communities. When we walk together, God works among us.
Let this be a call to action in your life: protect the unity in your family, in your church, and even in your online spaces. Speak life. Forgive quickly. Lead with grace.
